The best feeling in the world is being able to work from home with our dearly beloved pets. Imagine the relief of spending a lot of time with these fur babies, and at the same time, earning at the comfort of our own home. According to a study, surrounding yourself with furry friends can improve employee retention, enhance, employee health, increase productivity, and positive bottom-line results.

However, to balance your time at work, your choice, without neglecting our pets, here are some work-from-home guide on how to work from home as a paw-parents.

Potty train them first thing in the morning

It’s not always fetch time with your pets, isn’t it? You also can’t spend most of your time mopping the floors because you forgot to potty train them. Here’s how to deal with it:

If you’re a new in this paw parenting world, don’t worry! We’ve all been there.

  • Keep your pet on a regular feeding schedule and take them out to eliminate first thing in the morning and then once every 30 minutes to an hour – even after meals or when he wakes from a nap. And this might take some time, put your pet to the same spot each time to do his business because the scent he left there will prompt him to go.
  • Don’t forget to give them treats when they eliminate outside. Gently pat them on a head and say “good boy” or call them by their name.

Schedule them for grooming

If you can schedule a vet or grooming appointment, then that’s good, however, if you have tons of workload to do at home, then set aside some time to groom them by yourself. Depending on your dog’s hair length, activity, and smell, then, you can decide how often should you give them a nice bath.

Bathing these fur babies is good for personal hygiene, and checking them for unusual scratches, bumps, fleas, and other abnormalities. Don’t forget to brush them for unnecessary tangles and excess hair.

Buy them toys to keep them entertained

Since your busy at home working, a good toy would be a perfect start to keep them active indoors. There are myriad of dog and cat dogs you can buy online from fetch balls, squeaky balls, discs, cotton robe, rubber sticks, toy bones, and more. This is also a perfect way to get up, take a break, and play fetch, so you can also do some stretching from time to time.

Also, let’s not forget teaching our dogs to not be much of barker as it distracts us from work, and might also be an inconvenience to our neighbor. If toys aren’t enough, then try these easy ways to teach your dogs to bark lesser than the usual.

Whether he’s a territorial barker or an alarm barker, teach them the “hush” technique, and give them a treat afterward.

To do this, walk up to your dog while he’s barking with a treat in your fist. Place your hand in front of his nose so he can smell the treat, but can’t get to it. Your dog will likely stop barking to sniff the treat and once he’s quiet say “hush”. Do this repeatedly so they can get used to it.

Watch treats

Overeating and giving too much treats to your pets are bad for their health. It can cause numerous health risks such as obesity, heart disease or diabetes. All that extra weight can strain your dog’s joints, too.

Experts say to feed your dog/s twice a day, about 8 to 12 hours apart. You can use a "slow down" bowls to keep your dogs from eating too fast. Choose a non-slip base to stop the bowls from sliding around at mealtime.

Work in a Standing Desk

If you’re lucky to have two or more pets running around, then know that a standing desk would be very beneficial to you. Of course, you don’t want them tripping over your laptop, your chords, and other work equipment that would also be a disadvantage to you and your pet.

Try the EC1 height adjustable desk from FlexiSpot. Both models are dual-motor and can withstand the bump even at its highest setting. You’ll also like its desktop protective edge to help prevent your pet from falling on or into sharp edges that can lead to severe injury.

It’s also resistant to stains and scratches, so you can be assured that it will still look good for a long time.
